Matthaei Botanical Gardens

The Matthaei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor has two different locations within the confines of the University of Michigan. Consisting of four different properties, it encompasses a range of plants and fauna that is designed to educate and enthrall with every visit that you make. With both the gardens and arboretum being open to the public, with the other two restricted purely for research purposes, there will be ample opportunity to explore the various plants that come from around the world.

The Botanical Garden

Located in the north-east of Ann Arbor, the Matthaei Botanical Gardens has a total of 11 outdoor garden spaces to check out. Covering everything from medicinal plants, to bonsai, native plants and more, the different trails extend to more than three miles in length for you to set out and explore at your leisure. Furthermore, there is also an indoors conservatory that is home to a wide array of plants from all corners of the world which is the ideal location if the weather is poor and you still wish to surround yourself with aspects of nature.

With a packed visitor center offering food and additional information, it will be all too easy for you to spend a number of hours at the gardens in what will undoubtedly amount to a rather peaceful and restful afternoon.

The Arboretum

Offering you a number of places to explore, the Nichols Arboretum has to be one of the finest, and richest landscapes in the Ann Arbor area. With a mixture of both native and exotic trees, the trails allow you to really get out into nature and away from the stresses and sounds of daily life. In a land that encompasses all forms of nature, the ability to simply walk, or jog, through the arboretum provides you with a wonderful way to just get away from it all, and with it open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset, there will be ample opportunity to really check out everything that it has to offer.
